Masons, or Freemasons are men who have made a commitment to better themselves, their surroundings, and have a positive impact upon their environment. This is the oldest Fraternity in the world, dating back to ancient times when Masonry and stone cutting was intense and difficult labor. Modern Masons take their labors as seriously and work as intensely as the ancient men who built this Celebrated Fraternity, however, Masonry today is less about the physical activity of cutting and shaping the stones to build industriously, and more about shaping their own lives for the better.
The Masonic membership allows men to take part in the Leadership Development Program which helps to teach integrity, self discipline, confidence, and how to be a better self. They are given the tools to shape their lives to become better men.
Masons can be found working in the community, endeavoring always to benefit someone other than themselves. They do this by volunteering at many civic outlets, raising money for charity, or just being a positive influence in the neighborhood.
Freemasonry is not a religion. However, members must have a belief in a Supreme Being. No religion is excluded and all are welcome. This is not a secret society, though, some information is exclusive only to its members. Masonry does not hide its ideals, nor existence, nor any agenda for any reasons of nefariousness.
We, the members of the Mattawan Masonic Lodge are here to help our community. We support each other, our endeavors in private and public are governed by the ideals of the principles Faith, Hope, Charity. We call each other "Brother" for that is how we are taught, to celebrate each others success, defend each others integrity, and support each other in times of need.
